What to do next?

Alrighty, so far I've got 2 secured cards Discover and Capital One, started with $500 balances on both, discover auto bumped me up to $1500 (tx discover), I was up to 730 average with one negative trade line, Verizon's guys kept tapping me up and drove my score way down to 600ish so took care of that (luckily the junk collector did a pfd super easily, not their in-house it was sold to I think Jefferson Capital Systems), (no negatives left) I know my score will bounce back pretty quickly, once it does though how do I start to get some decent credit increases? Should I apply for new cards and if so which ones (and how many do I add), I was recommended the Chase Trifecta @ 1 year (at about 10 mos of credit history now). Thanks!

Re: What to do next?

OP -- Unfortunately, I don't have advise for you but I do have a question:

When you said Discover auto-bumped you up to 1500 -- was that while you were still secured?  Or was that when you graduated?  I hadn't heard of Discover giving CLIs while secured unless you increase your deposit.

Thanks for the clarification!

Cheers.

Re: What to do next?

Still secured, I used the card a little bit each month and then decided to max it out hoping it would indicate to them I needed more credit and it worked, a few weeks later they raised the limit

Re: What to do next?

Since Cap1 doesnt graduate for now. You could try the pre-qual page and see what is available. https://www.capitalone.com/credit-cards/prequalify/ Your really close to graduating your Disco. Any loans of any sort?

Re: What to do next?

I’ll check that pre-qual page but capital ones been kind of harsh so far, what do you mean by graduating, no other credit lines open, I went car shopping recently but decided to wait a bit

@ designated From what I’ve been reading though their cli’s are inconsistent and it may just be coincidental

Re: What to do next?

I would sit tight and wait. You can get some junk cards now, but by waiting you will begin to receive legit offers for reputible cards. Take care of DIsco and watch what happens!

Disco will graduate you from secured to unsecured and refund your deposit and usually you'll get a CLI at the same time. Cap1 has stopped graduating to unsecured recently. So you'll be stuck with it you can get to 3 cards and then you can shut it down if approved for a different card from them. Your 10 months out from starting your rebuild. Time to make the next move. You'll want 3 cards and a loan. Many use self lender for the loan part of the credit mix. Once you get there you'll get score increases as I call it the FICO Scoe Boost. Cap1 may surprise you for cold apping.
