rebuild process questions

Hi all,

I got a few questions as I start my rebuilding process, but first the accounts I've settled in the past 45 days and the scores.

These were unpaid for about a year and a half until settlement.

-Sofi loan $16,700 - settled for $9,200 (spoke to Sofi 2 weeks later and was advised they will show 0 balance going forward, not sure how that will effect scoring?)

-citicard (bestbuy) $4,700 - settled for $2,000

-citicard diamond preferred $20,000 settled for $5,400 (spoke to citi few days ago in regard to both accts and was told to call exactly at 51 days from the settlements to ask for a 0 balance letter, I'm assuming they'll report 0 balance to credit bureaus?)

-amex plat $5,100 & amex delta plat $6,200 on a program to regain the amex plat back by paying full balance ($500 to each acct monthly) was offered to me by amex 2 months ago

Scores are Eq-611 Tu-601 Ex-596

I have car lease with $4,000 balance and mortgage with $200,000 balance.

Also got 3 secured cards with $500 CL each in the past 30 days, capitol one, discover and indigo.

When will I start seeing an improvement with my scores? At what point should I go after regular credit cards obviously with higher CL, also if I end up selling house what kind of hit to my scores should I expect from it?

Utimate goal is to be in the 750-800 range for all three bureaus!

I'll ask more questions as I think of them, and thank you all in advance for taking your time to answer and give me pointers in my rebuild journey!

Re: rebuild process questions

Pay off all negatives, and try to get them GW removed if possible. You already have your 3 revolvers and an installment loan, so the only thing left is to pay on time and let your negatives age. Your scores will increase with time.

Re: rebuild process questions

The charge offs are still going to hit you for the 7 years from the date of the first delinquency. Paid looks better to potential lenders, but it won't help your score immediately. They will start to age now that they are paid and not updating each month.

The best thing now is to let your new accounts age and try to goodwill the charge offs. You did not say whether any of those had went to a collection agency or if they stayed with the original lender. If you have the collections then you can try to goodwill those too. Look for the goodwill saturation technique as a lot of members have had luck using those methods.

The good news is you now have close to a solid foundation which to build on. You just have to do your time in credit jail until they start to fall off or age enough to start getting some of those points back. I went from the 600's to over 800 in a little less than 2 years, but I was at the point where a lot of my old baddies fell off in the first year when I started rebuilding. You can get the date they will fall if you grab a copy of your annual credit reports.

Re: rebuild process questions

All were collections except Amex which offered me platinum card back or optima (I had a choice). But it shows 0 collections on my report, the original creditors were doing the late reporting until the settlement.. does that make sense?

Also total of 26 accounts on my credit file, with 20 of them closed, out of those only the ones from the initial post were late / ended up in collection. (average age of accounts 8yrs, oldest was 14 yrs)

Now was the debt included in my utilization and if so once they show zero balance will that help somehow?

Now that I have 3 secured CCs with $1500 limit, can and should I start the AZEO process and continue until my goal is reached?

Re: rebuild process questions

@OmarGB9 From your experience how long after settling debt does it reflect with the scores/report? 2-3 months?

It can take up to 3 months, but in my personal experience, it usually takes 2 months max. Your experience may vary.

Usually the first month they update the balance with the remaining balance minus the settlement amount, and then the following month they finally update the balance to zero.

@OmarGB9  Good good, thanks man!

Being that I have capital and discover secured cards plus indigo, you think it makes sense to get the TDbank secured card as well?

If TD Bank graduates, yes. You could replace the Indigo card with it.
