New Collection . . . Need help!

Hello All,

Need Help!  (I suppose we all start this way).  Received new collection after three years . . . it really set me back.  Instead of contracting the CA, I called the OC.  Paid the debt, which was only 131.00 from a 51.00 returned check, which I never knew about.  Ask them to delete from credit report and the person mentioned they would speak to someone and call be back.  Instead, I fedex a GW letter.  I know from the suggestions, I should have done the DV first, but for the most part, I wanted to pay this debt then worry about getting reimburst . . . need help.  This debt is a Dental Office, and for the last two years my scores have tapped off around mid 600's until now.  I have yet to received any letters, warnings or phone calls . . . any suggestions.

Re: New Collection . . . Need help!

Thank You for your help . . . GREAT NEWS; just received a phone call from the Dental Office.  They received my letter and are deleting the collection from the CBs.

Wild!  This is incredible . . . copy of letter is below for those that may require it . . .

May 11, 2009 Dear Dr. Lang, My Name is ............., some time ago (2006) I received services under the care of Valencia Oral Surgery Center, and although the experience and the service was above par I on the other hand apparently made an error . . . This letter is to offer my apologies, with a plea of compromise.  I have been monitoring my credit for the last two years, with the hope of purchasing my first Home.  Sunday, I received a message notifying me that my score had changed because of a recent collection. Trojan Professional Services, representing Valencia Oral Surgery added a collection of $131.00 to my credit report.  This morning I called and spoke with ............, and she mentioned that I had a returned check of $51.00 from 2006.  She also mentioned that I could pay the debt, instead of contacting Trojan Professional Services, which I did with no hesitation. Dr. .............,  this is my very first time hearing about this debt, I am not blaming anyone, but I truly hope you would understand my concern as it relates to my credit report.  I explained my situation to .............  I still have not received a phone call or letter stating the returned check.  Somehow, the mail was not forwarded to my new address, and I have been living at my current address for three years.  I can research the mail with the Post Office.  I closed the account with the Bank in .., over three years ago, but my obligation was to pay this debt, while seeking to understand what happened to the mail, etc.    Although, the debt will be reported as paid . . . I now will be pushed to pay a much higher interest rate, which will increase my payment because of the collection, which will take 7 – 10 years to be deleted.  The purpose of this letter is to please accept my apologies and please have the collection deleted from Equifax, TransUnion and Experian.  Please note that I know you do not know me personally, I am prepared to do what ever possible. If I need to set up an appointment to discuss this matter I will make the necessary arrangements to visit your office. Sincerely,  .....................................................

Re: New Collection . . . Need help!

Is this for a returned check or a dental bill?

Re: New Collection . . . Need help!

Both the Dental Bill was paid with a check, which they say bounced.  I seriously do not recall receiving the notice, and I no longer do business with this bank.

Re: New Collection . . . Need help!

I don't know if you'd have any protection under HIPAA or not, so I've PM'd another Mod to come take a look.

Until then, I can't really give you any advice, as it may not be correct.
