Re: How to Handle Collection Items..1 step at a time

Ok, so after I do that and have the reports from the CRA's, do I just go by what each individual report says the creditor is? What if each one still lists both? Do I call/write both? I've done the first 2 steps of the HIPPA process regardless...but now I'm totally stuck on how to proceed because as I said, these should have been paid by the insurance and they obviously didn't file the claim correctly or something. So I don't know if calling the OC with insurance info if smart considering the CA is also listed on CR's...ARGG! I'm so confused...But I'll go work on getting the CR's while I wait for a response. Thanks a bunch!

Call the ins. company and ask why it wasn't paid.

I don't have that insurance anymore but I was covered at the time of service so the claim should still be able to be filed. According to the letters I received from the OC, they say they didn't have insurance info at the time of service as they were all emergency visits and they did not pre-authorize before providing service.

Do you remember which year the dates of treatment were rendered?

The vast majority of insurance companies will not pay for treatment that was rendered more than one or two years ago if they're finding out about it now. Unfortunately, you are responsible for these debts, but I know it sucks. Can you afford to these debts off in full if you have to?

Re: How to Handle Collection Items..1 step at a time

I cannot afford it at this point...maybe at tax time or when my DH lands a better paying job (whichever comes first). I can only afford the smaller amounts like the $139 and $151 but there are 3 for $402 and one for $489.. that's a lot and we don't have it. So now what?
