3rd broken toe in as many years...

...should I have a bone density test???! I'm 5ft & so caucasian that I glow at night... but I'm also not even out of my 20's. Smiley Sad These suckers hurt!
2 of the three broken toes were broken just by stubbing them into hard surfaces.

The one broken toe was slammed full-force into the dried earth in the final minutes of my championship adult league soccer game (which we won Smiley Very Happy ), so *maybe* that one was a legitimate break. But these other two have me worried!

I'm sure everything is fine but if it really concerns you, I would talk to your doctor about it.

If you are worried you should see your doctor. Many conditions such as thyroid etc can effect your bone density etc.

Re: 3rd broken toe in as many years...

I'd get the test if you're really worried about it (AND especially if you have a family history of osteo or other bone-related diseases). Not because I think you're in danger, but even at your 20s, you should be prepping for "long term maintenance." And it will relieve the stress of worrying about it -- and too much stress is a serious health hazard.

True fact, though, is that the toe is the most commonly broken bone. They've done studies ('cause the gov is always begging to give away money) and they've shown that (with X rays) the average human toe has been broken oodles upon oodles of time in a normal life span. Most people in the study group didn't even KNOW they'd broken it!!

Another thing, I'd also ask to be checked out for an ear infection (or other aural oddity or infection). Your problem might be more along the lines of the cause, not the effect. Meaning, you might be a bit clumsy due to an ear infection, and THAT'S what caused you to break your toe so many times.

Also, if the dried earth break came BEFORE the other two, chances are, it just wasn't healed, yet. A broken toe heals faster than a broken arm, but it still takes several weeks (after the age of 15, I believe).

I'd look more to your overall health (diet, stress level, etc) before I'd worry about BD. If you're over-stressed (like moving across the country might cause -- or dealing with a SS who wants to live like P. Diddy on your credit), you really won't heal as fast. Really.

Please let us know what you decide to do ... and what the outcome is (betting on an ear infection -- tis the season for it -- specially since you changed climes, didn't you, with your move??). I'll be praying for you, Darlin'!!

You should get it checked.

I broke my left big toe once and learned real quick never to do it again.

Yup. My left big toe is the one I broke playing soccer. It will never be the same.. it's been two years almost and still gives me problems constantly. Even the slightest stub and it feels like it's broken all over again. And it cracks constantly, and feels like it needs to pop, but won't.
The other ones are my right pinky toe, and as of last night, my left middle toe Smiley Sad
