I've been matching back and forth between Hyatt and MGM for several years now. My original status came from spouse's Continental Airlines Presidential Plus credit card which came with Hyatt Platinum status. We used that to match online to MLife Gold. I was granted the same MLife Gold status as a spouse when we registered in person during a stay at a MGM hotel in Las Vegas. Afterwards, I was able to match myself to Hyatt. This has been working since (knock on wood).
@NoHardLimitsthank for the experience info.
I imagine that among the few nights at MGM props I'll have the opportunity to dig/push/pull with MGM staff.
Glad to know that you're able to status match in either direction with Hyatt and MGM.
I'm mostly lodging agnostic, but seeing the easy 2nd tier status with the MGM with their card interested me in a couple MGM perks, but mainly saw it potentially a way to bump up my Hyatt status one rung.
I've not fully digested the MGM reqs. for moving up to pearl, I may be able to do that on location or otherwise be comp'd for some trivial things that may be useful (free parking).
Caesars status match for me still hasn't happened. Initiated Feb 24th and after a few emails, DM's on twitter, and even a response from a Caesars Total Rewards rep stating that they sent an email to Wyndham to verify status from last week, I still haven't gotten matched yet.

Just as a point of clarification - If you go in person to a MGM resort, it is the MLife Rewards Desk (might be re-branded as MGM Rewards Desk by now) which will be able to answer questions about your status options. The hotel check-in counter will not be able to help with those types of questions. The Rewards Desk can usually be found somewhere in/around the casino floor.
@NoHardLimitsthanks for that!
I have printed a map of the Mandalay Bay Resort and see a marker where the "M life Rewards" priority guest check-in is located.
I'll be sure to make my way there first to see if my FHR reservation is going to affect my MGM Rewards at all. Hoping it will seed my new account with some points but if not, I'll surely do something that will during my stay.

No, not the Priority Guest Check-in area. That's for the hotel check-in. You need the Rewards Desk located on the far side of the casino from the check-in area. Look at the map again and find "MLife Rewards Desk".
<edit> It looks like the Rewards Desk is right next to the Casino Cashier which is number 7 in a green color box on the Mandalay Bay map.
AH! thanks for the heads-up @NoHardLimits !
I didn't look further once I found the check-in desk.. oops.
I see it, looks like "6" is it, below that is "7" Rhythm & Riffs.
I'm just practicing getting lost now.. The real fun will begin when I get there!

Yes, you found it. #7 is the Casino Cashier and #6 is supposed to be a shop called Davidoff. The Rewards Desk is right between those two.
I've never stayed at the Mandalay Bay, but I have dined and seen shows there. The Shark Reef is a nice attraction.
Just a DP for status matching from Wyndham Diamond to Caesars, my buddy was denied as he got Wyndham Diamond via Wyndham Business Earners card. He reached out to both Wyndham and Caesars and they are escalating it. I'm still waiting for an update on my status match, I got Wyndham diamond with the biz card as well.
FYI, my quest to get MGM pearl status was granted without the extra time and effort of applying for the MGM card. The MVP program was granted on-site at the MGM Rewards counter.
That was perfect since the MGM credit card would be mainly on maintenance mode and I don't have any status matching possibilities for MGM at present.
