They're only worth it if you print a lot but if you don't print a lot or don't need to print photos, laser is a better investment. Like all inkjets, the ink will dry out if it's not used, you just have a lot more of it and a lower cost per page until it dries out.

I would agree with @Anonymous. Laser are more economical and tend to last longer. I'd only recommend ink printers for those who print photos.
