I am usually not one to be a *kitch but I did something today that I'm sure will result with me being in Karma h*ll for a bit longer.
The restaurant I am a manager at is closing on...get this.......... Christmas Eve, for good. Owners choice on the date, what a guy. Anyway, I stumbled across an email I was not supposed to see about the owners wife wanting some moose wine glasses (don't ask). A long time every loyal customer came in today and said that the gen. mgr told her she could have any item in the store she wanted as a memento (He told quite a few customers this, gave away a bunch of odds and ends from the place) She asked for the moose wine glasses and I said told her yes. I know the owners wife wanted these..... but...... it being Christmas and me being in the appropriate holiday mood (given my upcoming job loss in 3 days) I did it anyway.
I'm sure this will be tacked onto the list of reasons I'm going to burn in H*ll , but it sure felt good.
Moose wine? Who makes moose wine?
atlast.....silly

Moose wine glasses are glasses that have a moose head as the stem of the glass. They are cool in a tacky sort of way. My boss found them on ebay. There is a moose beer which we did not carry.

Whatta bonehead -- choosing Christmas as the last business day! Whattayutz!!!
At least there's one thing to consider: you might "vacation" in Karma-H-E-L-L, but yannowhat? The owner will end up retiring there!!
I can see closing on the 1st, 10th, even the 15th, but Christmas Eve? It takes a special kind of person to do that. ![]()
i am the fiance of a restaurant owner and while i can't possibly guess why they'd pick christmas eve to close, i'm just wondering what the big deal is.
without wishing any bad karma on myself, why would it matter if it was any other day?
i'm sure the owners are going through just as much, probably more, pain than the employees who didn't risk anything to open it in the first place.
all that being said the managers at our place got $200 bonuses saturday. we couldn't do it without their dedication and hard work

To me it's the day and the day only that makes it a big deal. I'm not knocking the owners for closing, personally if it were me I would not have let the place stay open as long as they did. I do understand they had a lot invested in this restaurant as they do in the 28 other restaurants they own. There is a lot of history involved in this particular restaurant that you'd have to know to understand my frustration. (not being snide, just trust me it would take all day to explain) The gen mgr knew we were closing for almost a month but chose to only let us all know 5 days before closing. If we were going to close anyway, why not choose a different day?
It sounds like you are the kind of employer that inspires loyalty and that is rare these days.
i LOVE his employees. i usually have fun when i'm up there. i had to work for a driver who called in sick saturday night. i don't mind the extra cash and as long as it isn't too cold it's a nice easy way to make that cash!
the kid answering the phone kept telling customers it was my birthday or anniversary to help boost my tips. god love him!
i'm sorry you found out with such short notice and i wish you best.
