I'm not a metal head.

I can't listen to metal for the life of me lol... but anyway I just got into precious metals, I feel like I'm a little too late, I remember when I got my first job a old coworker was preaching to me about silver and gold and that I should invest in it... well, 10 years later one of my other coworker told me about it and I told him how I bought a silver coin back in 2014 for like $30, but back then it was only $20, if I were to sell it I'll probably breakeven but whatever I lost it anyway while being on the bus. Somebody stole it... anyway, I've been seeing so many people buying precious metals on ebay and read even at Costco that they sold out. I've even read about how president Nixon would give you a certain day to give up your gold or go to jail that's crazy. But now it's not illegal anymore, I don't see how it could be. It's not a drug or anything

There's no metal in my head either, just some grey/pink matter and a skull.  I guess that makes me a bonehead?? Smiley LOL

Re: I'm not a metal head.

Well,  I'm a bone headed titanium man.

Got a plate with 7 screws in my left clavicle and a 2nd plate with 7 more screws in my right ankle - both due to bicycling accidents in 2020. A very memorable year.

I did buy a 10oz platinum bar in 1988 for $6k. Sold it 10 years later at a loss. Almost purchased Dell stock instead. By comparison, Dell had gone up more than 100x.

Palladium was a killer opportunity a few years back. Not so much now.

I do like some silver mining companies but, it is a little late to the game. Uranium mining shows promise as well - expect a resurgence of nuke power plants  to support energy sucking crypto and AI.

Not a fan of gold or platinum.

Dang thats crazy... I couldn't imagine that. Sorry you had to go thru that, we all got to be careful and aware of our surroundings...

Man, I thought you would at least breakeven it's crazy cause the thief steal catalytic converters that has Plat and Palladium but according to the historical charts it seems to just stagnant. Wow I thought it was cheaper back then just like Gold. Yeah, not really into stocks like that. But Dell is a good company.

You need a supercomputer to mine, idk if it's worth it

Re: I'm not a metal head.

It's one thing if you want to buy physical gold or silver, but I've read that precious metal certificates are fractionally sold (meaning they sell certificates for gold and silver that doesn't actually exist and can't be redeemed for). I'd be leery about buying certificates stating that you own X ounces of precious metals, but maybe stocks are legit?

Re: I'm not a metal head.

You can buy stock in gold mining cos. I bought some stock in a cu mining co, tgb. Doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I bought it on an option contract, I made a little on the premium.

I actually buy GLTR stock (abrdn Physical Precious Metals Basket Shares ETF). It's good just to have as it covers physical Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium without needing to buy it myself and store it. Plus I find getting actual physical metal to be to hard to trade/sell at cost.

Let's say gold is $1000 and you buy 1 well it'll cost you $1030 because of shipping and handling not to mention a slight upcharge that the company puts on it when it sells it.

Then you decide hey Gold is at $1500 so you go and look everywhere to sell it. Local shops are gonna offer you $1300 because "They need to make a profit" online ones offer $1450 but you have to ship it to them.

So although I don't actually own mine mine is so much easier to buy and sell if need be. There are also Gold specific or Silver specific stocks but I am liking the basket one I have right now.

Re: I'm not a metal head.

I got a small titanium plate (skull) from a bicycling accident too.  I was being a little stupid.

Now my old school Bianchi with Columbus SLX tubing, my American Flyer Ti road bike and Univega hard tail are collecting dust in my shed.
