I passed my Security + test and since I am 54 and not a good test taker, I am very happy and amazed that I passed the first time. For those of you not in the IT field this certification is valuable and a must have.
Congrats!
So it's a test of what you know about information security, rather than a security clearance or something?
Congrats! I wonder if one day I will have to take that test. I'm working on a degree in Information Technology.
It is a test to test my knowledge on computer virus, encryption, and basic network structure and management. Any government employee who has system admin access on a network is required to pass this test. As a programmer, I really don't need that type of access but it makes my job easier and makes me very marketable to contactors as my post civil service employeer.

Congrats Marty!
I though about pursuing this cerification because I'm very interested in the security side of I.T.

I would definitly do it. The exam leans towards system administrators and policy rather than programming. While I am not interest in doing Information Assurance, work, it is an expanding job market in IT. LOL add another zero to my salary and a 25k home computer budget and I could change my mind.

Big congrats to you! I currently only have my A+ Certification and thinking about either going Net+ or Security+ I am curious if you are cerifitied on these two as well?! Also, how much work experience helped you passed you Security+ ( what I mean is, did you pass your test based on experience or did you have to do a lot of studying?) And hopefully you passed before Jan 1st, 2011 because I believe it's a life time certification if you did! Again, congrats!

Yes I did pass on December 28th. I knew that I needed to take the test before the end of the year otherwise I would have to take it every 3 years and I didn't want to do that.
The only cerification I have is Security +. To be honest, my work experince didn't really help much since I don't get involved with system adminstartion and policy and nenver paid much attention to cryptography. I am just a programmer and didn't pay much attention to those things (my bad). I studied hard for about 2 weeks before the test.
I would go Security + since it seems to be a widespread requirement at least for the government.
