Recourse on Prime > 2 day shipping?

I ran into this a lot around the holidays, but it still seems to be an issue now months later.  I'll order something on a Sunday for example, it says with Prime shipping I'll have it on Tuesday.  Then the item actually ends up arriving on Wednesday or Thursday.

I don't know about the rest of you, but the #1 reason I pay for Prime is to get free shipping and 2 day delivery on most items.  If that 2 day delivery is now turning into 3-4 day delivery, I'm not getting what I'm paying for.  Is there any recourse for this?  Membership discount?

Last time I brought this topic up on here I got called whinny and entitled.

Amazon isn't doing anything to compensate anymore.

Re: Recourse on Prime > 2 day shipping?

i understand - shipping estimates have been useless for months now

one thing i started doing, which is initially helping Amazon, but i hope will help me and everyone else going forward

Select the option for a delivery day - mine is Saturday - all orders will be delivered in one shot - likely in 1 box

this definitely helps Amazon from a bundling point of view

but - it will limit the total deliveries overall - which should alleviate the load, so that when you do want it in one or two days, it is more of a possibility

i had a situation where i ordered a cable for something - def no rush - and they had it delivered it on Dec 24, at 8pm

i was horrified, since i didnt need it in a rush - and hated that this person had to be out that late delivering (i hope it actually helped them financially, but i still felt bad)

there are soooooo many deliveries going on right now - we get stuff 2-3 times a week - and sometimes 2-3 per day  - this is not really sustainable

Well, you are entitled... entitled to what you're paying for.  A Prime membership says free 2 day shipping.  I don't really see it as being whining.  I just feel if they aren't able to deliver on what we paid for with a membership, they should reduce the cost of membership.

Amazon was up some 35%-40% in fiscal 2020 verses 2019, so if that equates to lesser satisfaction on the part of the customer certainly they have the dollars to adequately compensate.

But, if they're not going to compensate us at all, how about at least attempt to make some of the shipping data accurate.  Perhaps reduce the number of 2-day items on there by 50%... make some 3-day or 4-day, etc.  It's better as a business to over deliver and exceed expectations of the customer (tell them 3-day and it actually shows up in 2) than the other way around.  Obviously this has been going on long enough that I'm beginning to compensate and allow more time for items to get to me, but it was irritating when I needed something on X date and expected it, but didn't receive it until several days later.

Part of it is the related days in carriers. All 3 major carriers are reporting delays in delivery and impacts from winter storms and other factors.

Part of it is the increased demand from the shutdown and people ordering online more. Even Amazon can't keep certain items in stock to pace the demand.

Part of it is the consequence of pushing an unrealistic delivery timeframe and crushing its employees in an attempt to meet that timeframe. They knew this, which is also why they stopped guaranteeing 2-day delivery.

If the delivery explicitly had a guaranteed delivery, you can be refunded the delivery fee...if you can prove it was because of something under their control.

Re: Recourse on Prime > 2 day shipping?

This is a matter of confusing the "old" prime benefits with the "new" prime benefits. Prime no longer guarantees 2-day delivery. You'll have to decide if that change is a deal breaker for you.

For me, I don't see the big deal. I still get plenty of benefits from my prime membership, but sometimes have to wait an extra day.

How can you tell?  If I go to a Prime item right now, it says free delivery Friday March 5.  When I go to check out on that item, it again has free delivery Friday March 5 selected.  To me this sounds like a guaranteed delivery date, but perhaps I'm interpreting it incorrectly?

Re: Recourse on Prime > 2 day shipping?

I didn't realize it was so bad for people. I usually get my items next day still. I had an order of mouthwash that got delayed a couple days in transit which seemed like they had lost it but otherwise my deliveries have continued to be on time. They only use their own fulfillment to deliver to us, no more USPS.

Re: Recourse on Prime > 2 day shipping?

Back in the day, Amazon would extend your prime subscription by 1 month (free of charge) each and EVERY time they missed your 2 day shipping window. You just had to call in and ask.  Needless to say, I had gotten over a year's worth of extensions.... Sadly they canned that program...

Amazon is not what it used to be. Knock off products and fake reviews taking over. As well as progressively less effective customer service. No wonder Bezos abandoned ship. He's bound to the shareholders and I feel Amazon has grown too big to care about each individual customer. Just becoming another faceless corporation where they make it deliberately difficult to actually speak to the person who has the power to make your situation right.
