Hi everyone! I have been with Allstate for just over 10 years now. They cover my home and auto policies. The auto policy renews next month and I am think about switching. Allstate has been good over the years, but the original agent I had turned out to be really flakey and made a couple of mistakes causing undue stress when I had a no-fault accident 2 years ago. Then she LIED to cover up the fact she forgot to send the insurance info to DMV when we bought the new car after the crash. We switch to a different agent in town....but there is something kinda icky about him and I don't like him after all. My husband said I wouldn't have to deal with him, but I am thinking maybe it's a good time to make a clean break and start over with something new?
I am supposed to get a work-related discount at Liberty Mutual, has anyone had any experience with them? Also thought about moving to State Farm. I want to stay with a premium company. Neither of us has military experience so we couldn't go to USAA. Thanks in advance for any feedback ![]()
I understand how you feel. I am an agent with Allstate and the most important thing is reminders and follow up. It's easy to forget something when you have a lot of clients but that is what we get paid for. I don't know about your area but here in California State Farm is pretty expensive.
I would get quotes from all the bigs. Can't hurt. I've found Progressive to be the most inexpensive. GEICO isn't even close for me.

I have never had any insurance other than State Farm. No issues every with any claims, including a house fire. Fire happened at 10 pm, I had an advance check from State Farm in my hand by noon the next day so that we could buy clothes for the family. The only issue I have ever had was an agent who kept messing up the coverage for a new car. He was a new agent and had taken over for one who retired. When he took over he got rid of all the people in his office and brought in new. We figured that if they couldn't do a car policy it was time to change agents. We transfered everything to an agent 2 miles down the road and all is good.

I also have State Farm and have had them since switching from Esurance about 10 years ago. State Farm has been more reliable than any for me. Currently have Homeowners with them and Auto with them, also had a life insurance policy with them previously. When it comes to the 'follow-up and reminders' I can tell you, there were times years ago my agent would call personally if a payment issue occurred or was closing in on a due date since auto payment at that time was not setup. I have nothing but great things to say about them.
I have had experience with both Liberty Mutual and State Farm recently. I am a State Farm customer and got hit by a Liberty Mutual customer about three months ago. Dealing with the two companies was like night and day. State Farm was willing to set up everything, but I would have had to pay my deductible first, then get reimbursed when Liberty paid. Took over a week of calling Liberty just to get a hold of anyone, at which point I was told they still didn't have the accident report and to call back in three days. Took another week to get ahold of them, this time they had the accident report but hadn't gone over it to see if they were going to pay it. All in all it took two months to get my vehicle back, and had to fight with them to replace my kids' car seats. Totally different experience when my wife was hit by a State Farm customer two years ago. Had the vehicle in the shop, a rental and check for new car seats in hand in less than three days. I will remain a State Farm customer forever after the interactions my wife and her family have had with them.

My experiences have included single provider companies but found that I was not always getting the best in price or service. So ... I switched to an Independent Agency that pulls from 23 companies and shopped for me two years in a row (I also shopped other companies that they didn't write). There are certainly savings by shopping. Service is however a big item too as has been mentioned in this post. Personally, I don't like to go through all of what it takes to switch carriers but last year I over paid $168 and this year I switched and reduced my premiums by $500. My independent agency has several people that can help me and have. Service with my independent agency representatives is excellent. But like all things, this can be YMVC. Even if you like a single insurance provider it may pay to quietly shop and see what is available in the market place (may not change your mind but again maybe ...?).

I'm the the same boat. Currently with GEICO and am sick of getting rates raised with no accidents in...well...ever. SO I'm moving on. Through just about all of my research State Farm has had the most people recommend it to me. USAA is great, but they're so much more expensive than any of my other options. I want to sign with them but not for an extra $40ish a month. I've heard many stories (yes this is hearsay) of folks with State Farm having no issues at all getting them to pay a claim. I think they will be my next insurer if USAA is still outrageous.
One company I've found that seems to get high reviews and my quote was about on par with the rest is Amica. I dont know much about them but maybe check them out as well?
I haven't really checked out LM, sounds like maybe I need to give them a look.
I don't know if this will be helpful, but I hope so!
My girlfriend has American Family and she is very much less than thrilled with them.
