WHAT HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH

FUSED --YOU CAN LOCK THE THREAD BUT THERE WAS QUITE A BIT OF GOOD INPUT.  THINGS THAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW AND WOULD WANT TO KNOW.  I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS THREAD TO BE LOCKED.

I am a member of the USTA and love tennis.  This thread was very informative to me.

We are Americans no matter where we came from and it is interesting to hear other people's opinions which is what I thought was great.

Freedom of speech is our constitutional right as Americans.

Re: WHAT HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Have you read this?

There were far too many references to religion, race, racism and politics. This is a commercial site and the Admin at myFICO has every right to decide what can and what cannot be posted, you also agree to follow the guidelines when posting in the Smorgasboard. Lastly, if you have an issue or concern with me, PM me, don't be calling me out.

Re: WHAT HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Well that certainly wasn't my intent.  At 70 I am not calling anyone "out"  I simply made an observation and it did seem to go everywhere.  But it certainly was interesting.

Message Boards are NOT democracies  Smiley Very Happy
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Re: WHAT HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH

annie, resistance is futile. seriously. these are the rules. these message boards are run by a private entity and when you join you agree to the rules. honestly, the myfico admins and mods are very forgiving. I am a member on many other boards, and on those a post like this one would have not only been deleted, but the OP would have had their posting privileges revoked.

Re: WHAT HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH

I didn't bring up any religious or race or sex issues.  I only asked what people thought about the flag and heart thing.  Are you sure you read my question?

As for sex there have been many conversations bordering on the brink.

I am confused about the resistance as I feel I have the right to answer a "calling out" quote.

I am an American, proud of it and intend no harm to anyone.

What do mean private entity?  Some body on the American stock exchange?  I'm confused Dizzier.

Re: WHAT HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Anyone remember the posting here from a person who had their own forum but she was they only person allowed to post in it.  She was anti-FICO and after a few postings here she was run off.

I thought it was ironic that she attacked the FICO scoring system and people here and yet she wouldnt allow anyone to post oposite opinions in her forum.

As I recall, she was "run off" because she viciously attacked people's characters. You don't necessarily see everything that gets thrown on the forums. We do.

There are any number of "anti-FICO" threads here on the forums. And they're still there.

Freedom of speech is guaranteed by the US Constitution. It protects us from federal censorship. myFICO isn't the Federal government.

If anyone wants to know why references to politics, etc are prohibited on these forums, including SmorgasBoard, these last several threads are an excellent example. There's a lot of ill-feeling going on and insulting of fellow members, whether intentional or otherwise.

There are a hell of a lot of threads on the forums that offend me personally, but we do our best to follow the forum TOS and so forth. As long as they're within the bounds, and not completely pointless or uninformed, they stay.

Those of us in our fifties and older should remember the old prohibition against discussing politics, religion, or money in polite society. Gee, I wonder why? These forums are devoted to credit, and by extension, money, so we do plenty of discussing about that. But they are NOT meant for politics or religion or any of the other hot-button topics these days. There are umpty-diddle other places on the Internet where you can argue on those all you like.

As I mentioned on another thread, we had to fight a long, long time for an OT forum. The fear from myFICO is that it would become a place for yelling at one another and members offending and taking offense. We mods promised that we would do our best to stay on top of things, and now we get called PC and are told that we are violating members' freedom of speech.

At this rate, if the discussion arises again about keeping SmorgasBoard open, I don't know that I will fight for it. The AmEx threads are bad enough.

This is me posting as a member, who happens to also be a mod. I'm not trying to speak for anyone else. All just IMO. Which would constitute freedom of speech, I suppose.
