My main bank (Citi) is approximately 10 miles from my home. Wells Fargo, however, is only about 2 miles from my home. It'd be a lot more convenient to bank there when I need to make certain transactions. Are there any WF customers out there who could give me some advice/expectations of banking with them? Do you like it? Do you hate WF? Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. ![]()
I have them as a result of of the Wachovia takeover. I had 2 checking and two savings, with a CC, but I've scaled that back to one checking and one CC. In fact, I had one checking at $0 forever and they recently closed it without so much a notice. But overall they are OK. Thy are a backup account and really don't use it all that much. I think it's been a few months since I had any activity and there's been no fees.
My gf's sister just changed over to them recently from Bank of America, but hasn't really said anything positive OR negative about it. Many years ago i knew someone who had them, & they were just about fee'd to death.
I have WF. No complaints really except that this is the first bank I've seen that wants $3 to transfer money to another bank (even Capital One didn't have that, so it really annoys me). Now fees and all depends on the type of account you have, so everybody's experience might be different. Also, mine was an older Wachovia account. I like their banking site and they have new money management/analysis tools, that I think are nice.
In choosing them, I had branch locations and ATM locations as a major factor. I like ease of access. (The Boa, as I call the other one, was the only other major option).
We (my kids' school's PTA) has our business account with them. They're fine to deal with, as long as there aren't any problems. However, if you have to do something that isn't routine - e.g. stop payment on a check - the fees are usurious. I deposited a $4 check written by a parent, and it was returned due to NSF. The fee to us was $12. When we had our membership drive, I had to deposit a lot of checks, and when we went over a certain number of deposited items, WF charged use 50 cents per excess item. These dues checks were only $6, so we lost a significant amount of revenue.
Anyways, I digress. You're not looking for a business account, but I imagine that the consumer fees are pretty steep as well.

Not cool...that's taking money from the PTA aka school.
I've been banking with them since 1981. No problems really. I have a PMA account, since my mortgage is with them as well...as long as you have 25,000 with them (and they count 10% of my mortgage towards that) its free. Prior to the mortgage, it was free anyway, if you had your paychecks direct deposited, it was all free (don't know if that is still the case). Overdraft, transfers, etc. are not cheap, but I would imagine not much different then anyone else. ATM's everywhere, thats probably the biggest reason I like them.
