you guys are AMAZING parents, I wish my parents did the same I had to learn on my own
first and foremost I just want to say that your spreadsheet link is BRILLIANT (can I steal it?) and I love your car story its like you had a girl loved her so much but you needed to step away from the relationship and than you saw her in the street one random day you guys spoke for a while, made up now you are together for life...A beautiful love story I Love It, I hope shes still with you
My first car was a 1986 Mustang GT.
I've almost always had manuals with the exception of my current car which is a 2007 VW GTI auto (it was a deal too good to pass up when I bought it)
The auto has it's advantages living in NYC but the next car will be a manual no question.

GREAT ANOTHER NEW YORKER, I agree that auto does has its advantages in nyc because of all of the traffic especially during rush hour but do you think have a manual transmission in NYC would be a headache? how do you personally feel about it being that you are from the city as well?

I'm sure there will be times when I get stuck in traffic that the manual will be annoying, but I love a manual so much I'm willing to risk it. I also live in Manhattan and work in NJ, so it's a reverse commute. It's only a time or two each month that I get stuck in traffic on my commute. If I'm getting out of the city on weekends, I try to plan my drive outside of heavy traffic hours.
Definitely the reverse commute hahaha, I live in the BX and work in the UES but I will never drive to work 1. parking sucks in the upper east side and 2. traffic on 2nd and 3rd ave and the FDR during rush hour will probably make my leg fall off, thank you for the advice glad to know someone else in NYC does not like being bored behind the wheel.
first car was a 1971 Datsun 240Z. Green exterior. 4 speed with a manual choke lever that you'd pull out when the car was cold.

How much fun was that datsun?
Mine was a 1973 Chrysler Newport immediately followed with purchase of a 68 Camaro, 3 speed with 327. I am sorry I ever sold that Camaro it is worth big bucks today.

it was a blast. Loved that car! unfortuantely someone hit me and totaled the front end.
Sometimes after all these years, i still get sentimental and think about looking for another....who knows.
