Think happy thoughts about treadmills. And eating lots of fiber. And cutting back on salt. And cutting back on alcohol. Smiley Sad

But exercise helps a lot.

excercise more, maybe
alcohol, not a real factor (maybe get lit once a month to every 6 weeks)
salt, i'll suggest it to mcd's (not sure they'll get on board)
fiber when they start putting in diet coke, sure
happy thoughts, what are those?

in the end i'll just get a prescription or dw is a little 500k wealthier.

Should have mentioned, it's not just literal salt. You should check out the amount of sodium in sodas (notice how similar the words are), including Diet Coke!

High sodium doesn't cause hypertension, but once you have it, it does make it worse.

But in the end, meds do work. Plus losing extra weight. Sigh.

Re: if my fico could generate numbers that rise as high and fast

Ducky, I just turned 27. I have high blood pressure. And I mean, really high.

When I went in, mine was at 203/149. I don't really have any risk factors. Not in the family, and I'm not obese.

When I was in college, I drank like a fish and smoked like a chimney. I also ate terrible. Pizzas and beer every night.

My cholesterol was at 240. I was told I was 3 times as likely to die of a heart attack, and 6 times as likely to develop diabetes.

I was too embarrassed to join a gym, so I bought exercise dvds. Those, combined with only drinking on weekends, and paying attention to saturated fat caused me to drop 20 pounds and drop my cholesterol almost 40 points.

The trick is is to always order skinless chicken. Get it in as many ways possible. I don't eat vegetables, so I have mastered this. I also drink bottled water instead of soda.

At 25, I was told if I didn't change I would be dead by 30. Now, I love steak, and I love pizza. They can still be enjoyed, just not every night.

Simple lifestyle changes can overcome high blood pressure!

I apologize for asking a rude question, but how old are you Ducky?

that diastolic number is high.  Lose some weight and maybe a water pill (prescribed by the doctor) and watch the salt.  Soda especially diet soda is the worst.  Lose the salt shaker altogether  I use onion powder and other spices.  Deli meats are the devil itself.  Drink lots of water.  Exercise.  But that number means your heart is not resting enought between beats.  I take Cozaar.

Re: if my fico could generate numbers that rise as high and fast

i used to do the running and jumping thing and not terribly overweight. tip the scales at 210 and reach about 5'10".

i gave up the treadmill lifestyle about 5 years ago when it was no longer job related. i hated it w/a passion. my knees creek, i felt sick, and by the time i threw in the towel i was on an inhaler for "athletic induced asthma" due to coughing spasims from said treadmill.

now if you ever see me running, you better start.
