One of my Perkins Loan servicers is ECSI. I reached the end of my grace period on 7/1 making my first payment of $40 due on 8/1. I made a payment on 7/16. Knowing that my next payment would be due on 9/1, I made a payment on 8/11.
I now have a letter from ECSI saying that I am past due by 30 days and owe an additional $40 payment as well as $8 in late fees and they are reporting to the CRAs as such. Anyone have any idea what's going on?
Do you have proof of the payments? A receipt or an e-mail or something? If so, you should be able to send that in to them. What's the date on the letter?
Have you contacted ECSI to verify that your payments were received and applied properly to your account? It could be an issue of mis-routed payments, or a miscommunication between you and them about the payment due date or amount. Give them a call on Monday and see exactly what caused the late, then you can work to resolve it.

Date on the letter is from a week ago. My proof of payment is my transaction record from my checking account showing the ACH debit to them.

Will be contacting them on Monday. From my payment record with them, it looks like the payment I made last month was considered an extra payment and applied to the principal only rather than being considered my monthly payment for some reason. Here's hoping that ECSI is easy to work with. I'm also going to make sure that that payment which they should have just received is treated properly.
Was finally able to chat with ECSI. Evidently, any payment made before the 15th is considered an extra payment so since I paid on the 10th, they applied it to the principal instead of treating it like a normal monthly payment. No report was made to the CRAs yet so I'm in the clear there. Probably the most annoying thing is that a supervisor has to change the payment to reflect what it was supposed to be which takes 2-3 business days.
Now I know to make all payments after the 15th. :/
