Defaulted Fed Loans

Hi everyone. I'm Waginator.

I'm continuing a topic  from closed thread. Last I left off, I had just stopped an unethical garnishment from the loan holder.

I am starting to work on the advice given to me by helpful contributors, and I hope those contributors are still on this board.

One thing I did do is get a copy of my college transcripts, even though some said I can't get them while in default.

The school doesn't have an issue, just the loan holder, so I was able to get my transcripts.

This a a link to the previous thread  https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Student-Loans/FED-loans/td-p/5602225/highlight/false/page/4

More to come.

So your saying you can go back to school since you have the transcripts. Thats where it left off.

Re: Defaulted Fed Loans

Yes Firemedic, thanks for commenting.

I also filed a complaint about being garnished.

My Dad used to help me with this stuff, but Covid took him in late 2020.

It's time I put an end to my student loan situation. I feel like I can't move on with my life or lookinto going to college unless I do.

I have to contact someone local for help in negotiating.

Re: Defaulted Fed Loans

For Federal Student Loans, there's a process to rehabilitate your loans. It requires you to sign a rehabilitation agreement and make payments for 10 months. The servicer should be able to handle the rehabilitation, and you may be able to get some help from your school's financial aid office if you have problems working that out with the servicer.

Re: Defaulted Fed Loans

Hi Hoosier,

Thanks, but I'm not interested in rehabilitating my loans in the sense that I don't want to commit myself to anything long term.

The 28,000 they want from me is all late fees, interest and penalties. I've paid off the actual loan. I do NOT want to sign anything that obligates me to a long term payment plan. I just want to pay maybe $25  month until I decide what the best plan of action is to end my responsibility on these  loans.

I was pushed into going to college way too young with no idea of a major, because my Dad was from the days when any degree guarnteed you a good office job.I  got nothing out of being there.  I am a prospective college student looking to start over and go to college and get scholarships.

I am in the process of trying to find a student loan lawyer that will help me make a settlement or file a lawsuit as a plaintiff.

I'm willing to go on a program temporarily to buy myself time until I can decide what is the best thing to do.

I have been incontact with Senator Fettermans office for help as well but have not heard back.
