Defaulted student loan disappeared

So I was checking my account today on credit karma and was shocked to see my student loan missing from my report. My score also increased by 72 points. The loan was in collections and I have been making payments on it for about 4 years now. It was a sally Mae loan and I still owed around 22k on it. Any idea why it has vanished and my score has gone up? Thanks in advance.

Re: Defaulted student loan disappeared

Was the loan still held by Sallie Mae?  If they sold it to a collection agency, reporting by Sallie Mae would only continue for 7-7.5 years after the date of the first late that led up to the default.  Is the CA that currently holds the loan still reporting?

I'm sure that your score increase is related to a negative account being removed - defaulted installment tradelines cause a significant hit to your score.

Re: Defaulted student loan disappeared

The loan was sold by sally mae to collections some time ago. It was sold again to primary financial last year when the original collection agency went out of business. It was a private student loan as well.

I don't think the ca ever was reporting. I had been told by member service at my bank that even though I had been making payments on the loan it wasn't helping my score at all and the best thing for me to do was to settle.
