(My apologies in advance if this should have been posted in the Student Loan Forum -- Mods, feel free to move it there.)
Long story short -- I rehabbed my student loans last year. The collection account was removed from my reports and the original student loan trade line was restored. The loans are current, show no negatives, and were backdated to the original loan date. These are listed under "accounts in good standing".
HOWEVER... In taking a really good look at my most recent Experian report, it is listing the same account for Nelnet as "Student loan permanently assigned to government" (G - claim filed with government). UGGH!
I called Nelnet. They said I had to call the collection agency (College Assist). I called College Assist. The guy said the account should have been removed. I asked him how to take care of this. He said to file a dispute with the bureaus.
My question is -- When disputing, what reason do I use?
* Account paid in full
* Account closed
* Other ("This loan was rehabilitated and by agreement should be removed")
I don't want to pick the wrong option and risk having it be kicked back or deemed frivolous. Please advise...
That's really strange - when I found mistakes, my student loan provider told me to file a dispute with the CRA's too. In the end, I had to talk to someone who provided me with a fax number (at Citibank) to send my credit reports to and they took care of it from there. The friendly people of the MyFico community advised me that I should work with the creditor directly rather than filing a dispute with the CRA.
I just wonder why that seems to be the first suggestion of student loan providers? Is it because the person on the phone doesn't want to deal with it?
