Navient Won't Budge On Lates

After back to back disputes with the CRA regarding Navient lates going back as far as 2010 I went ahead and contacted the advocates office sending in a copy of my credit reports to support my paid in full loans with them and the reasoning I wanted a removal of the lates. So after 2 weeks I call back to get an update and the rep rerouted my call  directly to the advocates office. She then begins to explain that Navient only reports accurate information to the bureaus once an account goes delinquent past 90 days and that since my last reported late was in 2013 that was the very last time they had reported. " I'm calling that BS"...she went on to say furthmore Navient is obligated to report only accurate information and would be in violation of some rule/law in the removal of any late payments even though the accounts are now "paid in full" further hindering my credit reports. They have no goodwill sympathy in them folks. Oh well with that I will move on and just let them drop off in 2020.  Retool my plan moving forward to still maintain "good" credit scores without their assistance. I had been pressed on getting these removed because they would have been my very last baddies to come off after so much hard work in the past. Would I have seen a bigger jump in my scores? Only time would have been told. But I do know the longer they sit on the report the less damaging they become so, to Navient keep on holding firm in your stance because time is on " my side". Moving on 😉

Without knowing all the full details it's hard to give advice.  If a lender is reporting incorrectly, file a report with the CPFB -- they will take it from there, IF it's reported incorrectly.

For what it's worth, I'm in the same boat with Navient - 90+ lates from 2012. They aren't coming off for another two years. And because they're 90+ late, they do NOT hurt less over time.

Just gotta wait them out.

I can't be for certain if some of the timeframe my accounts where actually in forberance or not. It was a tough stretch for me finacially going through the recession. But I do remember being in constant contact with (Sallie Mae) at the time. Everything could be reported as accurate but I was under the assumption that if a loan was paid in full that Navient would usually give a courtesy removal of the lates? Besides what are they gaining from not doing so?

Re: Navient Won't Budge On Lates

Just to test the waters filed a claim with the CFPB last week and Na vient came back with the same exact response as expected. Shame that the CFPB allows them to just stick to the status quo just as long as the company respones to your claim that is all that's necessary no mediation to come to some common ground or nothing.
