Navient

Has anybody had success with Navient removing late student loan payments reported to the credit bureaus because of a Goodwill letter?

I have consolidated my student loans so now I have 1 student loan and 9 closed student loans that are reporting as closed but still reporting as derogatory due to missed payments.

I cannot increase my score regardless of what I do because of those derogatory lates still reporting even though those student loan accounts are closed. I thought writing a Goodwill letter to Navient would help me get them removed?

Since you are still technically paying on those loans (even though they are now consolidated), I believe the higher education act forbids the removal of lates (accurate reporting). I know some get lucky after they are paid off with GW requests, but the servicers will not likely do it while you are still paying on them.

Re: Navient

@Anonymous is correct.

There are a couple of servicers who have been known to do goodwill removals (rarely, but it's happened), though technically in violation of the HEA.   Navient is not one of them.

Re: Navient

Now that Navient is quitting. I wonder if there will be any change with removing late payments?

I haven't attempted any goodwill late removals with Navient, but your post has me thinking about consolidation since I also have 9 closed student loans with Navient reporting. And late payments attached to each of those 9 accounts:/

Are these accounts closed due to default?
Consolidation won't make the lates (or accounts) go away, though at least if you are late, there won't be as many lates reporting.
