Re: Need help please

A lot of public universities offer online course, some completely online.  Others require some to minimal attendance. Hell even Harvard has online courses!!

I know I have read many discussions online and on other boards abot the validity of UofP degrees.  I worked at the University of Minnesota and they will not touch anyhting from so called online degree mills....or places like devry or Kaplan.  Student were shocked to find out that the money they spent was worthless.

Re: Need help please

I would hope that before investing thousands of dollars into education, that everyone would research the best, most valid source of that education. If you have decided on Univeristy of Phoenix without doing this you are doing yourself a disservice.

Re: Need help please

I thought they had changed the guidelines on a parent plus loan and that even if your son or daughter is over 24 you can still apply for a parent plus loan for them but that might only be graduate school.  The interest rates are usually much lower and your parents could get the parent plus loan for the 10,000.  I know that I had to start paying my son's loan 2 months after he received the money but you probably could of deferred it but I did not know that much about it at the time.  I now have those loans consolidated with the DOE and it works fine for me.  Good luck but I would definitely check into getting a parent plus loan before getting a private loan.  good luck.

Re: Need help please

PLUS loans are still plus loans.,  But there are now Grad Plus Loans that the student can take out.  These are credit based.

Re: Need help please

In regard to the UoP, I completed a 4 year degree in the IT field.  I would NOT recommend this school to anyone.  While I did not have a problem with the degree and it being accepted by my employer (it got me promoted), but I was an existing employee.  The problems I had were with the school: my advisors changed every few months, it was over priced, the teachers were for the most part not involved with the class discussions, and I had numerous billing problems.  Had my employer not have paid over 50% I would have dropped the program after the first few classes.  Overall it was a poor experience, I am looking into the online program at the University of Oklahoma for my masters, a much higher respected school.

Re: Need help please

Thank you for the responses, after doing some research, I did find a lot of negative things about UofP but also found just as many if not more positive ones. I am going there because it will get me to a bachelors the fastest and i dont have time (shedule) to go to a regular in-class school. I was also looking and as I am going to be persuing a degree in Business-Communications, later I can go to a grad school to get a masters, most of the ones I researched, even University of Arizona (very highly regarded business school, Eller - College of Business at UofA) accepts UofP degrees in order to apply for the masters program.

Hey as long as I'm working on getting my credit up, i can get my education up as well Smiley Happy
