We need to consolidate my wife's student loans to switch to an extended repayment plan. The people at the student loan co. she has the largest set of loans are total morons, they hire people to read off the webpage, and I really don't want to deal with them.
Are there any good companies I can apply for consolidation with, maybe get a better deal? Googling it seems to direct to a lot of scammy looking services.
I have no direct experience with loan consolidation. I asked a classmate of mine and he recommended Upstart and Common bond.
Are they private or federal loans? If federal I'd definitely reccomend http://www.loanconsolidation.ed.gov/ That's who I used for my Federal Student Loan consolidation in Dec 2012.

It seems she has little choice but to apply for consolidation through the federal government, as she wouldn't qualify for any privately funded programs (due to lack of income.) It also seems she can request a servicer on the application, but I guess it doesn't matter that much.
