Student loan after BK

Ok so I am considered an independent student. I have maxed out Federal aid. Is there any way to get a student loan with a BK? Discharged 9/17.

Re: Student loan after BK

Yes, your attorney must file a separate document. I think the name is something like adversary proceeding, can't remember. Then, according to which district court it goes to, most use the Brunner test to see if you pass. It is worth a try. Google Brunner test. It may be that you even get it reduced. People never get their's forgiven in bankruptcy because they never try. They never file this form. I understand that you can even file this form after the bankruptcy closes. Please let us know how it goes.

Re: Student loan after BK

I think OP is wanting to know about getting another private student loan, NOT going back and IIB current loan...is that correct OP ??

Discover and certain CU's offer private student loans if thats what you're asking about, and yes its possible to get another loan, but we need a little more info like your current scores, did you start rebuilding after Bk, etc...

Re: Student loan after BK

I would also keep in mind that it is not uncommon to max out one kind of loan before the other. At that point you can't get any more federal funds. You just have to file some affirmation document thingy (yes, that's the official name 😁 ) and you'll be good to go to get the remaining loans/aid available to you.
