Why does Sallie Mae report so many TL's when they only send me one bill?

Re: Why does Sallie Mae report so many TL's when they only send me one bill?

Once late, payment is late. Even if you missed payments till you were 90+ and they backdated forbearance or deferment, SM and Nelnet both typically do not adjust the previous derogs. You may have had options, but you did not exercise them timely.

The only chance you have is if they reported derogs during the first 6 months of leaving school since technically you should have been in a grace period. If the lates occurred after this 6 month grace period is up, they are legitimate lates. You can search these forms for other stories and examples of good will attempts with SM. There are many, many to read up on.

If they are legitimate lates, I suggest you move on to (re)building your credit in other ways.

I noticed that Sallie Mae keeps saying we have to report accurately.

Technically, can removing the lates still be considered reporting accurately since there were other options available to prevent the loans from becoming past due?

That's basically their way of saying that they don't want to make a goodwill adjustment.  You can keep trying, or you can focus on other ways to improve your credit, whether that be building and maintaining good tradelines, or clearing up other issues.
