Hello All, My student loan is 120 days past due. My account has been changed from u.s. department of education to great lakes. I spoke with great lakes and they said that my account with them is not in default status. I am getting ready to send in my first payment to them but I want to know what happens to the lates showing on my cr from u.s dept of ed. It's there a way I can ever get that off my cr or is it too late? Am I screwed for the next seven years?
If the lates are accurate, your only options are to wait for them to fall off in around 7 years or write goodwill letters to the lender. Some folks here have had success with GWs, only you can decide if you want to put in that effort.
