I have a Federal Perkins student loan and the "current status" on my credit report says "pay as agreed." I have 81 months of payment history on the loan and "38 months reviewed" listed on the credit repot. I have no major deliquencies or amount past due listed on the report.
However, earlier in my payment plan I was late on three separate occasions in paying the monthly installment (carelessness on my part). These late payments appear on my credit report as "30" or "60," indicating I was 30 or 60 days late.
Question: Are these late payments impacting my credit score or, in this case, is there no impact since the overall status of the loan is listed as "pay as agreed" and there are no major deliquencies listed?
Thanks!
Hi, welcome to the boards.
Usually a status of "pays as agreed" indicates that your loan is currently past due. This means you could have had a late in the past, but caught up. The bad news is that late payments do hurt your score for a number of years. The good news is that as you get more and more on time payments, those late payments start to hurt less and less. After 7years, they will eventually fall off of your report and will no longer be hurting your score or be seen by creditors.
Keep up the good work of on time payments and your scores will continue to improve.

how could that be? all of my student loans show up as pays as agreed, & i've never been late on any of them.
