the only reason i can think of that's causing a 14 points discrepency between my transunion and experian credit score is that a lot of banks now pull experian. Do you guys agree with this line of thinking?
Fico allows all the CRAs to tweak the algorithms to a certain degree to suit their preferences. Assuming everything on your reports in regards to reported accounts and their balances is identical, Experian for example is likely scoring inquiries slightly harsher that the other two. A difference of up to around 10 to 20 points between the CRAs is a fairly normal occurrence.

1. A difference of 14 points between two bureaus is not statistically significant. Scores from different bureaus are usually not identical even when the data is identical.
2. Each bureau has its own version of the algorithm for each scoring model.
3. You would need to compare the two reports line by line to know if there's any difference in the data. Certainly if one bureau has more inquiries than the other, that could account for a score difference.

thank you very much, JoeRockhead and SouthJamaica!
I'll add here that I've rarely ever seen anyone report that their scores are identical across all three bureaus let alone two out of the three, except in rare situations such as someone hitting 850s across the board.
As mentioned above each bureau has their own secret sauce / tweaks to the FICO calculations so it would be unusual for them to be exactly aligned.
Perhaps 🤔 if you have inquiries reporting on one of the bureaus that may be the difference.
I typically see a slight difference between the three bureaus myself due to information posting at different times.

HP count does impact score but, some profiles have more on TU than EX. It is highly dependent on your sphere of creditors. Credit score model customization may be the culprit.
Fico adjusts their core models to give more or less weight to specific scoring factors at the request of each CRA. The tweaking was out of control with the older Fico 04 model. This created turmoil and more than a few complaints. Scores could vary by 60 points among the CRAs with the same data.
CRA customization was curtailed with Fico 8 and further restricted on Fico 9. Given identical file data, the goal was to ensure scores were within 30 points of each other on Classic Fico 8. Differences over 20 points are unusual if report data is identical. If under 15 meh.
No quantitative consistency goal stated for Classic Fico 9. However, one published objective was less variability between EQ/TU/EX relative to Fico 8. They have succeeded - imo. I see 30%-50% reduction in score range among the 3 CRAs; F9 vs F8.
