I just have to share this success story:
Two months ago, I was having trouble making ends meet to pay my car note. So I called my lender and asked for a defferal. The agent said I was approved for the defferal and to only pay the defferal fee. Long story short, I paid the defferal fee, but still ended up getting charged in their system for the full monthly payment. I was as if I had never even applied. Then....my FICO dropped significantly because they reported me as being "not more than 2 times past due." I knew my hard-earned score shouldn't have to suffer like that because of an agent's mistake. That's why I thank God for SCORE WATCH. It is so worth it. Score watch alerted me in time for me to take the right steps to resolve this.
So... I wrote a letter that day to credit dispute services outlining what happened (rushed to FedEx to fax and mail it), and then called for backup with Equifax by filing a dispute with the lender through them. Equifax sent me a report that was back up proof of my positive payment history. Beautiful! Long story short - I was FORGIVEN the ENTIRE monthly note - didn't have to pay anything except till the end of my contract, AND...my FICO shot up by 50 points!!!!! I'm letting everybody out there know...look people, sometimes you have to fight back. If one person tells you no, go to another and another until you get through. You're going to get frustrated, you're going to feel like hanging up the phone and doing other things, but keep pressing on! I'm so glad I didn't give up. I knew the agent had made a costly mistake that I would have had to pay for with my FICO score if I was lazy and took his word for gold. If I didn't go above him, write letters, make calls and just be persistent, I'd still be in the hole.
That made my Christmas. Just wanted to encourage everyone. Thanks myfico, suze orman and score watch.
