Adding spouse as AU to boost score?

Hi,
My spouse and I have matching CLs. We're still working on raising our scores. Will adding each other to all of our cards benefit us at all? Many of the accounts we don't use, just have them for the utilaztion %.

TY!

Welcome to MYFICO.  Yes, it will certainly give you both a nice cushion hence a boost.

I would keep your tradelines separate. The only time I would consider AU to be appropriate is if one has literally no positive history at all and can't even get approved for secured cards - in that instance an AU can give them enough of a boost that they can get their own tradelines started.

You should have a minimum of 3 bank cards each.

Why keep them separate?

Re: Adding spouse as AU to boost score?

My opinoin is to add each other as AU's. As long as there is no baddies on the accounts and age of the accounts is relatively the same, your score my go up some. Additionally if something happened and say your spouse incurred a 30 day late or something. You could remove that off your credit report with a little effort. It's like this, if there is any option to improve your score, you should take advantage of it.

Another way is each of you add each other to the oldest CC you each have. Wait for it to report on your credit report and see what the results are. Based on that effect, you should have a reletively good idea what would happen if you added each other to the next oldest CC you each have. I think this is the best way to go.
