Amex AU Question

When I was younger, I was an authorized user on my parents' Amex account.  They have a long and excellent history with the account.  However, I just realized that the account was still appearing on my credit report (Experian only, not TU or Equifax), even though I am no longer an authorized user and haven't been for some time.  I was concerned that the balance on the AU account (~6,000), was impacting my score negatively.  So, I called Amex and asked them to remove the AU account from my credit report.  (Apparently, it doesn't come off just by the fact of no longer being an AU -- you have to request it.)

So my question is, was this a mistake?  Is no longer having that balance going to be outweighed by losing my parents' excellent payment history?  (My own report for my own account does not reflect any late payments, etc.  It seems to be negatively impacted only by high utilization.)

Thanks!
