Amex Authorized user and score drop

Hello everyone,

I just looked at my Experian Plus score, through credit expert.com and I dropped from 680 to 666
But Vantage score seems to have went up from 740 to 745

The only difference is that my wife opened an Amex card and I am an authorized user

it just seems like a big drop, especially that my utilization is really low, less than 10 percent and was actually lowered a percent or so in that month

maybe i am reading too much into it since its NOT FICO score

any advice would be apprecaited

Re: Amex Authorized user and score drop

Being added as an AU on a new account is not a good idea. What you want is to be added as an AU on an older, established account.

A few months ago I added my sister as an AU on my 2 AMEX cards, and she saw a 56 point jump. But, my AMEX accounts are old. She gained the history.

IMO ut. between 1-3% is optimum.

Re: Amex Authorized user and score drop

Thanks Cobra

its a 15,000 CL so I thought that would be beneficial down the road

I just dont know if I should take my name off now, or wait since months of good history will eventually help me,

I dont know

I am getting obsessed with that whole score thing, maybe FICO does not drop this bad

Re: Amex Authorized user and score drop

I would keep my name on as an AU. You've already taken the hit for lowering your age. The added 15k will help - just make certain she keeps the card in good condition. Don't EVER be late with AMEX - EVER !!!!!

Cobra - I pay the bills anway, so I will have no one to blame but me Smiley Happy

So would the 15K help down the line, I guess I am assuming that if everything staying good and utilization is low, then I should be getting the score back up beyond the points I lost

Thanks

Re: Amex Authorized user and score drop

crap, what really happens if I try to take my name off, I had no idea that the AU is counted against me as a new account as well, I just added myself to another card that belongs to the wife, Chase visa reward card which was just opened early this month

how can you weigh the benefit now, better yet if I take my name off does it come off my report?

Also, my credit report average history is three years, and longest account is roughly 6 years

but thats before AMEX hit the report
