Never saw this before but I recently applied for an Amex Everyday card and was declined. My scored dropped 49 points for that one inquiry by Amex. I was kind of blown away. Why did that inquiry hit so hard?
IMO, 1 inquiry in and of itself wouldn't change a score that much. It may have just been a trigger to give you your updated score. Were there other changes that happened to your credit since the last time you checked your score. ( balances rising, new accounts reporting, a late or collection)
Also, where is the score you are referring to from. Myfico, cct, etc.
I am using the myFICO app/membership. It's been pretty good/accurate with the reporting. As soon as the Amex one popped up, -49 points. Nothing is late or has a balance.
Could be a lot of reasons and without knowing your whole profile hard to say
CC's Loans, AAoA, INQ's baddies, UTL total and UTL individual
You failed to mention the Barclay HP as well
Much more info needed

I agree. It was more than likely the HP that triggered the updated score, and it was something else that caused that big of a score drop. It happens to me all the time with MyFico updates; they seem to lag way behind in sending me alerts or completely miss a triggering event, so by the time I get an alert, all of the other changes to my credit profile finally show up (with my changing score), even though those changes aren't specifically listed. I hope that makes sense.
