Found this on Experian today how accurate if at all is this?... Does the south really have this sorta score?
Not in my South Carolina home....
While I think all of that "South Average" data is BS, the score stands out to me the least. Having 1 open account and 84% utilization as an average is complete and utter BS from my perspective.
I'm also in the South. The averages aren't representative of my household. But we're just two data points contributing to that average.
I think these numbers would be more meaningful if they broke out the total number of accounts into total/average number of open revolving accounts, total/average number of open installment accounts. Also if they broke out the util that way as well.
I agree with BBS. The fact that it shows an average open accounts of just one, makes me question the accuracy of all the information.
While geographical location may play a small role in data points, there's no way it's as significant as those numbers would suggest.
It's also worth noting that Florida has a population of 2X that of any other state in that southern region and Florida probably also possesses the oldest average age of citizens. That being said, I would expect credit scores of Floridians to be better than average based on more pronounced age of accounts factors.
Data talks - here's some from my archives dated 2014 and 2015 for Fico and VantageScore. Average score does vary greatly by state - 63 point spread high to low.
The 1st, 2014, study is based on VantageScore 2.0 (scale 501 to 990) while the 2nd, 2015 study is based on VantageScore 3.0 (scale 300 to 850). Also, the 2015 data mentions "Fico Score 8 by state". Not sure on the 2014 tables but, I suspect they are Fico 04 because the source refers to Sallie Mae and the department of housing.
