Hi all. Planning to get a new car at some point in the next few months. All 3 of my FICO 8 scores are over 750, but my Auto 8 scores are all a shade below 750. They're all trending upward (although sort of slowly).
Thought I recalled reading somewhere that either 750 or 760 was sort of the magic number for getting top tier credit on auto. I know it depends on what score the dealer pulls etc., but is there a case to be made for my waiting a couple of months until the auto score clears the 750/760 bar? Or am I overthinking this?
Thanks.
You are probably overthinking things.
18 months ago I qualified for an auto loan with BoA @ 1.79% with an EQ score of 720. My down payment was a healthy 30% so that might have something to do with it too.
Don't forget a local CU may be a better deal and your score should get you their best rates. RBFCU has a score guide that will let you know your rate without applying based on your score so even if a local CU in your area doesn;t have them you could go down and ask and it won;t cost an INQ.
