Closing a brand new unused card

Bit of an odd question.  Just signed up for an amazon visa card.  I have a FICO score of 790-800 and a household income well over 150k.  Chase approved it with a $3150 credit limit.  At this point, I don't want this card as the limit is so low.  My other cards have limits over 20k.  I was expecting a much higher credit limit given my financial position and credit history.

The Terms & Conditions I received from Chase with the approval message says: "You will be bound by this agreement if you or anyone authorized by you use your account for any purpose, even if you don't sign your card. Whether you use your account or not, you will be bound by this agreement unless you cancel your account within 30 days after receiving your card and you have not used your account for any purpose"

Does this mean that if I call Chase up immediately and cancel the card, it won't get reported as a new account to the CRAs?  Even if it does, and I close the account, will it still decrease the average age of my credit history which is over 10 years at this point, even though it was only open for a day or two?

Re: Closing a brand new unused card

From everything I have heard you are stuck with this card and all its ramifications unless you can dispute it off. You might try calling today and speak to a credit analyst to see if she can help you out.

Re: Closing a brand new unused card

Credit limits are not what they used to be.  If they agree to remove the account from your credit report, you wont see any score change since the account is too new.

It would be unwise to cancel a a credit card with a large bank like Chase since they might decide not to offer you another account down the road.

If you really need that much credit on the card then I would speak to a CSR to se what they can do for you but again in these days of credit limit decreases, closing accounts and what ever else banks can think of I, would take the credit limit offered to you.
