Credit Diputes

I recently saw something on my credit report which did not look write. A collection account shows that it was opened in 2005 but the last activity on the account was 1999. Did not recognize the creditor, which is listed as Midland. I decided to dispute in writing through Equifax which ended up lowering my score by 16 points. Why does a consumer dispute lower your FICO score?

Re: Credit Diputes

Welcome to the forums!

If the DOLA was listed in 1999, then disputing it should have updated it to 2009 and/or the reported date changed. FICO reads this as a newer CA.

Obviously it is beyond CRTP with a DOFD being 1999 or prior. Do you have a copy of your CR from EQ? If this CR is directly from equifax.com, then look for a DOFD to see what that says. What reason did you use for your dispute?
