Re: Credit Gardening

Thank you all for your advice.

Yes, the late accounts have been satisfied.  I tried to goodwill them plenty times before but was ignored month after month, after month.

I guess this is a new year, so I can give them a new try!  Smiley Tongue

Oh, and I have a Captial 1 card(10 years old), which the APR is high, but I dont carry a balance on that one, but am charged about $6.00 every month for ?? I cant

remember now, but almost like a maintenance fee.

Also, Merrick Bank has my highest limit and that is what I carry the balance on but the APR is ridiculous!

That card is about 7 years old so I didnt want to cancel.

Re: Credit Gardening

MrsQ...I'd had some similar issues with my reports (scores hanging around 670 to 685).  No matter what I did, that's where they stayed.  Then I got the collection dropped off!  TU went up past 700!!  Even tho the collection only had about 4 mo's til it dropped, I GW'd & got it dropped early.  That is the one thing that took me past 700!

Who's the CA?????

BK 7 discharge 06.24.2020 No Fico score at all. Smiley Sad

Call Capone and ask they change the account terms, they refer to it as offers for the account.  Make sure that you ask if there are any other offers than what they first mention.  They offered me a reduction to my interest rate and after saying yes I commented that the interest rate reduction was silly.  I do not carry a balance, so the reduction was whatever.  I did it so that maybe in the future they would offer me something better.  The CSR then made a statement that effectively was that there was a different offer, but since I took the other it was no longer available to me.  I asked what that offer was and she said it was about rewards.  She then made it seem like the rewards that I would have been offered were less than what I have.  I have the lowest rewards with them, so how can it be lower?

I would keep the Merrick Bank account and call their office and see what they can do for you.  I have a secured card with them.  Their phone number is 8015456600.  You will get an operator and you must ask for the credit department.  You must make sure you tell them you do not want the call center!  I have had the card for about 5 years and they don't give back security funds.  I think if enough of us call who have been long term customers with them, they might alter some of their policies.  One would think after 5 years, they would realize I am not going to default or abuse my account.  I would even take a reduction in my limit to account for the security funds being returned or interest on it.  Even at 3% I would have earned $150 by now.  It does take customers directly talking with the individuals who can pass suggestions on to them for them to consider changing things.  (It is best if it comes from good consumers, so if you are abusing your account it won't help as much as those of us who are doing well.)

I don't want to cancel my card with them either.  They have been fantastic with me.  I just wish they would work with me a little better.  My interest rate with them is 17.4%, which for them is probably low.  I pay $3 a month, actually I pay $5 a month since I have 2 authorized buyers on the account, so basically $3.  (I am helping my sisters out with their credit, one uses the Merrick and the other uses a Capone card.)

Cancelling cards will impact your score a bit, but it will still report positively to the bureaus.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.....
Always follow these rules: Only take a HP for a new account. Always use the best rewards card for that reward category. Don't close a card unless you know you really should. Never use more than 35% of a credit limit. Recon as much and as best you can. Use the introductory period to the best advantage. Get the signup bonus. Whenever possible PIF or balance transfer so you pay less in interest. Never give an excellent rating when it is actually the norm. Always look for a discount as more is always better.
Always accept candy from strangers because they have the best candy or from people you know have good candy.
