I've been looking at my Experian CR that a potential employer sent me. I'm wondering what the category KOB means and some of the following codes under it that go along with each TL: bb, bc, ja, lz, dz, ff, etc.
Is there a guide somewhere I can look up exactly what each thing means on my report?
Thank you.
Hi clock,
KOB is "Kind of Business". I take it you're looking at a rather detailed CR. I only found these on my mortgage pull.
I don't think we list these on the myfico forums, but they're available through several sources - google will pull them up.
Although it seems mysterious, it's somewhat mundane. (Maybe KOB really stands for "Kind of Boring.")
You'll find some variations on different lists, but one resource gives the following:
BB All Banks, non-specific
BC Bank Credit Cards
JA Jewelers
LZ Lumber, Building Material, Hardware, non-specific
DZ Department & Variety Stores, non-specific
FF Sales Financing Companies
Hope that's helplful!
ETA: Best wishes on your efforts with that potential employer!
Wow, you're good! Thank you. I looked up the other ones via Google. I just wasn't sure if they were on here or not. I'm surprised how many there are!
Thank you for the info and the best wishes (it's with a credit union). Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Clock, as beamMEUp has said, these are only codes that report the type of account or credit inquiry that the person has reported.
Anyone requesting a pull of your CR has to provide permissbible pull authorty under FCRA 604. That appears to be all that they have done.
If their inquiry was only related to employment inquiry issues, how they coded their reason for permissible pull as to their type of business is irrelevant to any credit scoring.
