Discover CC Approval Score vs. myFico Score

You can see my most recent scores in my signature below.  I wanted to post this to show the large discrepancy in scoring formulas and the resulting scores.  I applied for a Discover card on the 11th of this month.  I was instantly approved for a $11,500 CL.  I was expecting to be approved, but was surprised at the relatively high CL.  I received the card and paperwork in the mail today.  In the paperwork it had a very basic credit score summary.  FICO Score: 786  Source: Equifax  Date: February 11th

As you can see, the myFico score from the same day for EQ was 675.  You can see the details of my credit building in some of my other posts.  I was very surprised to see this high of a score from Discover with a $55 paid collection still on my EQ report from 2008.  I assume Discover weights their scoring heavily on CC history, as I have never missed or late on a payment and keep my balance each month at reporting time in the single digits.

Just wanted to post this example as the huge difference in scoring formulas.

Re: Discover CC Approval Score vs. myFico Score

IF you are sure the Discover letter said FICO, then it is very, very likely it is based upon Beacon 9, which is based upon FICO 8. FICO 8 ignores one paid collection for less than $100. That alone could explain the large difference.

Discover also probably uses a CC enhanced version for qualifying for a CC. That could make more difference - one way or the other depending on your CC history.

If you were applying for a mortgage, your EQ FICO would still be 675.
