My Experian score listed on CreditCheckTotal today is 535. However, I just finished successfully applying for a CreditOne Bank Visa credit card and they listed my Experian score that they used to make their creditworthy decision with as 625. Any insights on why they are not the same? Thanks in advance for your help.
Two scores can both be drawn on Experian data, and yet have a very different scoring model (with different weights and considerations) from each other.
Credit Check Total uses the FICO 8 Classic model.
CreditOne may have used a very different model. On the acceptance letter that you refer to, it should say somewhere what model they used. What was it?
But... even if C1 and CCT used the exact same model, the two companies may have pulled your Experian data on different days. During that time, the data in your report likely changed and therefore your score changed as well. Did you pull your CCT score and apply for the C1 card on the same day (today it sounds like)?
Thanks for your reply.
The approval letter I received from C1 did not list which model they used to come up with 625. CCT provides an updated Experian score which is updated daily and this mornings updated score was 535.
Thanks again.
If you want to pursue it further, give Credit One a call. Tell them you are delighted your app was approved and you are curious what credit score they used. If they say "FICO 8" double check with them and make sure it wasn't "FICO 8 Bankcard Enhanced" which is a different model.
Credit One switched from reporting TransUnion New Accounts 3.0 score to VantageScore 3.0 about a year ago.
As far as I know, they are still reporting VS3. The source of the score should be stated somewhere on their web site after you log in to your account.

Hello Thomas Thumb! I don't think our OP is talking about a free credit score he is being supplied as a user of a Credit One card. Rather, he's talking about the score that C1 used to determine whether they would approve him for the card in the first place. That model might be a completely different one from the free score they give out.
Quite true.
What CCs use for approval vs free scores they report are often different. I did not make the application connection.
