So, I have two accounts in collections. One isn't perfectly clear to me so I use the Experian app to dispute the account. Very simple to do. About five weeks later it appears that the account now shows as being late and the balance increased by about 25%. I have not been paying this collection as nobody has ever asked and it's not totally familiar to me. The amount has stayed the same for the year or so it's been there.
Now, a week later, the collection disappears from my Credit Karma credit report but not from Experian (although Experian might not have updated yet). I'm getting sporadic notifications from Credit Karma, Experian and NerdWallet thst a collection balance has increased and I have a new collections account. However I can't find it on the reports.

It could be that the disputed item couldve been removed and readded with the correct information, or maybe CK and NW are bugged out with it. Hard to really say for sure though. If youre not paying for experian, the way you can find out if an account is removed is by going to the dispute center and checking if its there, and if so you could see what been updated about it. If you are, then experian usually do daily updates (and sometimes instant) when it comes to any updates to the report. What you should do however is pull your full credit reports from annualcreditreport.com and review everything accordingly. If you still are not familiar with the account and it came back valid, contact the CA and request a DV (Debt Validation). They would have to prove you owe the debt, which sometimes even includes sending statements of the OC.
