The answer to that question is usually no. There are times that it can affect your score because the bureau(s) cannot put all you credit history together. First the bureaus do not go strictly by social security number when your credit is pulled from them. The bureaus use name address and social secruty number age and generation code if applicable. Let us say the Jonathon William Smith JR name variations like jon W mith JR or Jon Smith JR most likely are harmless. But here are two examples that can cause a problem Jon Smith William Smith and also applied for credit as Jon Smith JR and William Smith JR at the sme address or at different addresses. The Jon Smith and Jon Smith JR may or may not be same person. You could say bu the social security numbers are the same. How does the credit bureau know for sure the social security number being reported is being reported correctly? The answer is they dont. So the credit that has been granted under those two different names may not be reported when your credit is pulled. The lender may see just one of those tow credit profiles form the bureau.
As a rule when applying for credit use your full name name and address. When applying for credit apply consistantly in the same mannor with your name address. (added for others who might read this) The name and address varitaions can cause a problem but most of the time it does not. I hope this helps
