EQUIFAX

They have dropped one of my closed accounts from 10/01 (Applied Bank)  and sent me an alert that my HSBC acct has gone up 10% to 22.49.  I always thought 10% of 1900 was 190.00

Seriously I am concerned about them dropping some of my age.  What do you suggest.?  You can never get them and they don't answer e-mails.

I did call HSBC but no one understood me.   Sigh............................

I am still at 698 for a year now and they list my credit as "good" but the score affecting items are very good, very good, very good and good.  I give up.  I just don't go for anything that pulls them.

I was reading something about closed accounts can stay on your reports for up to 7 years on their website yesterday. I had to read it twice but sure enuf that is what is says. I know we all think closed accounts can remain for up to 10 years. This might explain why they dropped my 3 oldest accounts way early. BTW your score will only be considered good until it reaches 725.

Well, that made me jump!

I found this on the EQ site:
Closed or inactive accounts, depending on the manner in which they were paid, stay on your report for 7 to 11 years from the date of their last activity.
That really clarifies things, doesn't it?

It sure would be nice if there were some pro-consumer legislation stating that closed accounts will remain for 10 years minimum. The FCRA dictates when things must come off, but not how long they must stay on. It shouldn't be up to the CRA's to decide how long to keep your history going.

Re: EQUIFAX

Well I have one that shows up from 4/01.  Why not 10/01.

They are really messed up and don't think they will answer you. Scary they have so much power over your life

It would seem to me we could do something about it.  We do outnumber them (LOL).

Like I said don't use anyone that pulls them.  All my inquiries are off now.

In any event the account has not been closed that long.  It was opened on 10/01.

They won't answer me anyway.  What's the solution for this?   MODS????

Re: EQUIFAX

They lost one of mine that had only been closed about 4 1/2 years. I was pretty mad until I found that my score increased as a result, lol.

I don't know that they're removing them deliberately after 7 years, so much as the older accounts are being shoved off by newer data. They just don't have enough file space to hang on to everything, is my guess.

Many of the mods are pulling out what remains of our hair over screw-ups by CRA's. I'd suggest starting a writing campaign to your elected representatives in DC.

Certainly the consumer is the ignored player in this little game.

edited to add:  it was a foreign customer service person, but she was very nice.  it just took much longer than it should have because of all the scripts she had to read.  Smiley Sad

Re: EQUIFAX

My EQ score has not changed one point in over a year.  One thing I that was interesting is that FICO Acheivers only carry 600.00 in debt.?????????????????OMG!!

Re: EQUIFAX

They've got some really old stuff in there. There's something about installment loan balances being a couple thousand bucks (forgot what it was), and I told someone it's as if they financed their Dodge Dart on a 20-year-note or something.

Also only four or five cards lifetime? That is seriously old-school. Great for back in the day, but now with all the rewards cards, we won't find very many people born after 1970 or so who will have fewer than a half dozen CC's throughout their lives.
