My Experian score dropped and I'm trying to figure out why. Experian has been holding steady at 785 for months (with or without AZEO). Last month, 6 out of 7 CCs reported a small balance (between 2 - 6.5% each) and EXP dropped to 782. My oldest card (since closed) turns 3 years this month so I decided to reduce the number of cards reporting a balance to try and optimize my score to see the affect of having an AoOA at 3 years. Two out of the 6 cards with a balance updated to a $0 balance this week and I'm waiting for Discover to also update to $0.
Today, I got an alert that my score changed, so I logged in and to my surprise it dropped! From 782 to 759 and then settled at 764 now. The only changes are account balances and account age. My thinking is that I moved out of a "young" profile to another scorecard? No accounts have dropped off and there are no derogs. I'm also wondering if my score will increase again as more accounts update to $0 (except at least one).
I was hoping to hit 800 soon, but this is discouraging.

IMHO, no, it was something else, as yet undiscovered.

IIRC, I think 3 years AoOA is a segmentation threshold as noted in the primer. See message 1 and 4.

ETA Were you tracking your scores on the 1st of the month for any change?

According to ThomasThumb AoOA is a segmentation factor, and it is believed that the threshold is 5 years or 10 years.

Yes, I've been checking every day for changes since I paid off most of my cards this weekend. Discover just reported $0 and EXP went up to 766, so now 4 out of 7 CC are $0 and the other three are smaller balances but don't report until next week. My auto loan also updated April 30th (DCU has not been consistant with that). I just went through everything with a fine tooth comb, and nothing looks off kilter. No lates, no collections, no new accounts or inquiries.
I also just checked my EQ & TU (Fico 8) and both are down to 765 (from 790s) ![]()

Based on @Anonymous scoring primer, it looks like at 3 years (AoORA), my scorecard was reassigned (no longer young), and hence the score drop. That's the only thing that is making sense right now.
Also compared my other EX Fico Scores, and only the Fico 8s went down. The Fico 2 & 3 (mortgate, auto, and bank) went up.

@KLEXH25 At 3 years AoOA you were reassigned to Mature Scorecard, hence the drop as you and @AllZero said. Congratulations on the graduation and reassignment. welcome to the Oldies Scorecard!

Man, I should have paid more attention to your Scoring Primer, but it's so long....I was not expecting a 20-30 point drop ![]()
I guess I have some studying to do. Any insight into how long it will take to get my scores back closer to 800 again @Anonymous ?

@KLEXH25 posts 1 through 6 of the Scoring Primer are required reading for very good reason. I'm sorry this happened to you. I'm not quite sure how long it will take to get back to where you were organically. Obviously you may be able to do certain things to tweak & optimize.
The good news is, the new revolver penalty is very small in the time period shortly after mature reassignment. The bad news is, it would've been better to fire before you lost the points on the first. I would think that it took 3 years to get to that point, so I would think it will take at least 2 to get back to that point fully (absent optimization), but that's just a guess. But some recovery should be seen before that.

Welcome to this Brave New World!
It's a well known threshold now (159 replies, you should add another DP!):
Oldest account hits 3 yrs scores drops up to 22 points
I just hit it in December. It's now 5 months later and score recovery is going well.
6mos seems to be one of the magic numbers with FICO score models.
