Effect of Past Due Amount and using past-delinquent card

I have one CC that reported 30 days past due a year ago, which was caused by issues accessing my account to make the payment. When they called me and said my payment was late, I made the full payment within 24 hours - but they still reported it.

For this baddie, the Past Due Amount is "Not Reported".

I'm curious, would it be helpful/hurtful if this amount was extremely low or high compared to my CL?

I'm not terribly happy with the response I received from their customer support at the time, but I'm not sure what options I have either against them or more importantly to improve my score moving forward.

Would it help if I used this CC more often and paid it off regularly - any more so than regularly using other CCs? Or even cancel this CC and open one with a similar CL?

Unless they are charging you fees to have the card, I don't see a reason for closing the card. If the account was late, then they have the right to report it as past due. Try a GW letter with them, but I wouldn't close the account.

Generally the bank might respond favorably to a well crafted good will letter if the late is more than one year old.

You could state that you have not been late in payments for over a year and would the bank be willing to remove your late notation. You could point out that you would like to use the credit card more but you don't know if a 30 day late payment hurts you more on a card that you are actively using.

Instead of using the card more, I would sock drawer the card for a month until it had a $0 closing balance and then write the letter.

I would definitely not close the card in any event. A bank does not have any reason to remove a late in order to foster good will from a customer who is no longer a customer. If the bank does not remove the late this year, it might still remove the late in response to the goodwill letter you write again next year.

Recently in another thread it was reported that a lender removed a late from a closed tradeline. In addition the lender reopened the tradeline. That punctuates the point that I am making. The lender wanted the additional business from the consumer. That is why the late was removed from a closed account.

I have not heard of lates being removed from closed tradelines that were not reopened.
