Equifax Reporting Date Question

I am hoping someone can explain whether I need to worry about this....

I disputed a collection with dept of education in hopes it would get deleted by lack of response. Well it was confirmed through Equifax and given the "Last Reported Date" of 7-07. I paid this collection back in 10-03 and have not had any activity since.

Does the different in the "Last Reported Date" mean anything? When I pull the report directly from Equifax it shows my payment history as being on time from 2003 to 7-07 which makes me believe when I request my credit score it will be lower with a more recent date.

Does anyone know if this field affects the score?

Thanks!

Re: Equifax Reporting Date Question

Reported date has NOTHING to do with the time CRAs can report negative info...

If it was paid 10-2003 it will be due to come off 4-2011

Date reported won't effect negatively in the mean time.

I agree with Rob. The date reported doesn't have any impact in the credit score.

Re: Equifax Reporting Date Question

That's what they said but the little dots showing the payment history make it look like I have paid on time up to present on the collection. I found out the EQ does not report positive payment history only lates so since the reported date is more recent it gets the start and end date and fills in the blanks with positive history.

Also it shows as a collection with zero balance....is this any different than the status showing as a PAID COLLECTION?

Thanks again!1

Re: Equifax Reporting Date Question

What date is it that pertains to when it comes off the report?  And how long do negatives stay on the report?

Thanks!

Can stay on 7.5 years, but most seem to come off at 7.0 years.

BK stays 10 years

And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Re: Equifax Reporting Date Question

Tuscani Would the last reported date not matter with all three CB? Does the open/close date and last payment date only count towards the scoring or does last reporting date factor in at certain points? Thanks,

I definitely not Tuscani. But I would throw answer out for you. The last report date shouldn't have any impact in your credit score.

Re: Equifax Reporting Date Question

Thats what I am guessing will be the case. I am wondering for the negatives but on the flip side if it does take in to account I can dispute a account and when its reported back it shows on time payments to present even if the account has been closed for years so I thought this may help as well.
