Hi
It seems once a month, my Equifax FICO score increases by over 175 pts but a week later I receive an alert that it drops back down the exact number of points. I called Equifax and they said it's probably a glitch. I guess they have glitches often. Has anyone else
had this issue with them?
I had this happen with Transunion. In mine it would plummet 28 points and then come back 3-4 days later. I called Transunion several times and they said it was not their fault. It was the scoring model. It finally stopped after writing them a letter 2 times.
Are you referencing FICO scores or Vantage scores from one of the free credit monitoring services like Credit Karma? Sounds like the many stories we hear about Vantage scores which is what these sites provide with the exception of Discoverscorecard. Even most banks provide Vantage scores.
If it is a Vantage score you may not get any clarification because Vantage scores respond oddly to actions (different formula/algorithm) and as you will see on this forum noted 1000's of time, no one truly monitors this because the score is seldom if ever used in credit decisions. Although it's a real score, it's a model not often used. Not a lot of energy or research put into trying to figure out the why's.
It's highly unlikely that it's a "glitch". More likely that it has to do with changes each month in the way your balances are reporting. And with swings that big, I'm guessing you're looking at VantageScore, not FICO.
