Experian AU Dispute Questions

I added my wife to my Hilton card last October thinking she would use it to try and hit the SUB, but she just doesn't.  So, I removed her as an AU back in February.  I then filed a dispute with all three credit agencies to have that AU account removed from her file.  I realize it is ok to leave it, but the Monk in me wants it gone.  TransUnion and Equifax deleted it right away, but Experian took forever to make a decision and when they did, it was to leave it alone and not delete it.  They also added this note on to her file: "Account previously in dispute – now resolved – reported by subscriber."

So, 1.) how do I get it removed from her file, and 2.) is this note harming her score?

Re: Experian AU Dispute Questions

If the account existed and was reported, EX is not required to delete it from their file. However, they do need to show the AU account as terminated.

You can contact the CC issuer on your wife's behalf and ask them to send you a letter stating the AU account was never activated/used. Then your wife can file a dispute with EX along with the letter stating she did not authorize the account and therefore wants it removed from her file.

Re: Experian AU Dispute Questions

The notation would have no impact on your wife's scores.  To get it removed, she would need to dispute it with EX stating she's not the individual financially responsible for the account, and that she never authorized being added to the account.  She could also adamantly suggest the intention of filing a formal complaint with the State Attorney General's office, and the CFPB in order to obtain a favorable outcome if needed.

Sorry, what's the rationalization for removing the spouse as authorized user?  And especially the rationalization for attempting to wipe the tradeline from her credit report via a dispute rather than just letting it age off?  What dispute reason would be used?  Hopefully not fraud / identity theft because that could flag the card account and get it canceled entirely.

Please enlighten me.

She didn't use the card.  It's technically a closed AU account that was open for like 3 months.  It does nothing for her but take up space.  With TU and EQ she just gave "closed AU account" as the reason and they removed it instantly . Why not also get it removed from Ex?

Re: Experian AU Dispute Questions

@Varsity_Lu  There are two ways the bureau can update an authorized user accout.

1.  The first method is to delete the account.

2.  The second method is to update the ECOA code. There is a field on the credit report that says I - Individual J- Joint A- Authorized User  T - Terminated

I will illustrate using me as an  example. I am on brothers Discover Card account  as an authorized user. Here are two scenerios

1. My brother chooses to remove me as an authorized user. The reason does not matter

2. I choose to be removed from the account as an authorized user. The reason does not matter

The bureau can update the ECOA code to a T. My relationship to this account has been terminated I.E. I am longer on this account. This not derogatory at all the reporting of the account is accurate.
